UPOU: my first book from my own pocket

This might be funny for some but this is something that I will never forget. Well, first, I just received my first book(well first of lang I day). Second, this is not for free(man, from my pocket). Third, it’s not that cheap not that expensive(the book costs P430, delivery for P250, online pay charge P32). Fourth, it’s Philo 1 baby! Haha

Haven’t I told you that I now pay for my tuition too? Now I know how working student feels like. I also have to minimize my playing time as I have to study more on weekdays(well I actually play a lot on weekends. Lol)

Anyway. That’s it for me today.

For example:

1) KawawaUY — pwede pity
2) UY nahulog — yan surprise yan sya
3) Kagaling nya UY — admiration
4) Sinuntok sya UY — confirmation yan
5) Wag ka ganyan UY — hmmm, could be many things, more of kasaba, if you ask me
7) UY! — could be anything!

And syempre andyan si MAN.

HTD: Umuulan ba?
TD: Hindi man.
HTD: Ha? Sinong man?
TD: Wala uy!
HTD: Alam mo hindi kita maintindihan.
TD: Ako pud.

And there are a bunch of others:

HTD: Asan si Pedro?
TD: Ah si Pedro pumunta sya sa kuan para kunin yung kuan. UY, tama pala, mabuti na tanong mo yan. Muntik ko ng makalimutan yung kuan. (and only a Dabawenyo can understand that!)

Then there is the two-letter HA combined with LAGI.

HTD: Ang laki ng building na yan.
TD: Oo nga, laki ha yan sya masyado.
HTD: Malaki talaga sya.
TD: Lagi.

And then we have the very helpful two-letter words that can transform all nouns and whatever to verbs, the two-letter wonder GI.

1) Gi balot ko na yung regalo. Sagot: Oo nakita ko dala mo lagi.
2) Gi basa mo na ba yung libro? Sagot: wala pa man.
Sagot: Lagi.
5) Gi suntok pala sya. Hala uy, Bakit man ganun? Sagot: Lagi!

And then we have that magical three-letter word that makes people from Luzon cringe and shudder when they hear it: MAG and its past tense cousin NAG

1) Magkain na ako. Sagot: Ha?

And who can forget BITAW and GANI?

HTD: Si Maria mabait na tao.
TD: Bitaw, mabait talaga si Maria.
HTD: Nahulog si Maria?
TD: Bakit mo nasabi yun?
HTD: Sabi mo bitaw.

I love Davao Tagalog. Lagi!

Being Rude

“For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.” (Ephesians 1:15, 16 NIV)

We can get frustrated and angry – and even rude – when we’re not appreciated for what we do. From work, school, and chores, we can go through the day feeling unappreciated, as if nobody cares. If you’ve ever felt this way, there’s good news for you. God sees everything you do. He knows the sacrifices you make and the work you do. With every good thing you do in Christ, He is appreciative.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, ” (Colossians 3:23 ESV)

“…And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:4 ESV)

Don’t be Anxious

…Ask and you will receive… (John 16:24 NIV)

I am Sean Alderite. Young professional yet still an undergraduate. I am from Davao City but I believe God sent me to Cebu City for a greater purpose.

As I have said, I am still not yet done with my studies. Reason? Financial problems which resulted lack of interest in my studying(lack of faith you say). As far as I remember, I am still on my 3rd year taking up BS ComSci at University of Southeastern Philippines. Well that’s way back year 2010. I really want to finish my studies.

A workmate introduced me to UP Open university. I applied for the program. Well, my average grade is not enough for me to skip the Undergraduate Assessment Test(UgAT). In short, I have to take that UgAT. This Saturday, May 10, I am scheduled to take that test. If I pass, I’m in. If I fail, well I know God has a better plan.

Then what’s the big deal? You see, I really want to pass that test and be part of that program as I can still work while I study. I really do. To be honest, I am anxious about what will be the result. I even asked God what should I do to avoid failure. What if I failed the exam? I still have work the night before and what if I can’t make it on time(exam is around 8am but I have to be at least 30mins earlier). What will happen if I will not be able to take part of that program? I’ve come too far to fail this. What about pursuing campus ministry? All the what if’s.

Until this morning, I realized all I need is faith. I know God will be there for me. He knows me well. He’s the one who enables everything in me. I just need to trust him and ask what I really want. A verse from John tells me to ask in Jesus’ name anything that completes my joy.

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. (John 16:24 NIV)

I just have to be in faith that I will be able to pass this test and continue my studies.

As Paul said in Philippians.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6, 7 NIV)

A Not So Special, Special Story (Mine)

So proud of you my anak. đŸ™‚

Once upon a time, i always love stories that start like that. Anyways to start off my life story, I have to be completely honest, this is not a testimony saying that I was a alcoholic and did drugs before or I was raised in a broken family were neither my parents were ever there for me, No, my life was well special in a not so special way.

I was born a christian and both my mom and dad were both Christians. They would greatly be involved in the church, that is why most of my life involves me always going to church almost every single day. I was raised to live according to Gods will and His faithfulness and I was also brought to a Christian private school from kindergarten all the way to high school. All my friends were either from church or from school (most were very…
